If your surgeon has recommended a spinal fusion, there's something you need to know before you sign.
It's not that surgery doesn't work. It's that the conservative path you were offered before surgery was never complete.
I know because I lived it. Two years ago I was lying on my kitchen floor at 2am because it was the only position that didn't make me cry. An MRI gave me four words β L4-L5 herniation, degenerative β and inside six months I'd lost the construction company I'd spent eighteen years building.
Here's what the standard conservative path looks like for most people with an L4-L5 or L5-S1 disc problem. If you've been at this a while, you'll recognize every step.
Step 1 β ibuprofen. "Take this and come back if it gets worse." It masks the pain for a few hours. After months of daily use, your stomach starts to pay for it.
Step 2 β physical therapy. Bridges, bird-dogs, core work. Some of it helps. Most of it doesn't address why your disc is degenerating in the first place. $100-200 a month in copays.
Step 3 β gabapentin. Your doctor prescribes it for the nerve pain. It dulls the signal. It also dulls your mind, your memory, your reaction time, and your personality.
Step 4 β epidural injection. $1,000-3,000. Cortisone delivered directly to the inflammation site. It works β for 2-6 weeks. Then the pain returns, sometimes worse. Your doctor offers another round. Same price. Same temporary result.
Step 5 β "I think we should talk about surgery."
That's it. That's the entire conservative path most doctors offer before recommending a procedure that permanently alters the mechanics of your spine.
Notice what's missing? Nobody asked WHY your disc is degenerating. Nobody addressed the chronic inflammation that's been dehydrating your disc tissue for years.
Your disc is about 80% water, held in place by molecules called proteoglycans. Chronic inflammation destroys those molecules. When they stop functioning, your disc can't hold water. It deflates. It compresses. The nerve gets pinched.
Every treatment on that list either masked the pain signal or temporarily suppressed inflammation locally. None of them addressed the upstream cause β the chronic inflammatory cascade that's been drying out your disc from the inside.
And the supplements you tried on your own? Turmeric capsules from Amazon?
The science behind them is real. Curcumin reduces inflammation. The clinical research is solid. But standard capsules have 2-3% bioavailability β meaning 97% of what you swallowed was destroyed by your stomach acid and liver before it ever reached your bloodstream.
You had the right idea. The delivery failed you.
Most anti-inflammatory supplements β and NSAIDs like ibuprofen β only hit one inflammatory pathway. Your body runs inflammation through at least three. It's like trying to shut off the power in a house by flipping one breaker when there are three circuits running. You need to flip all three.
There's a gap in the conservative path. We built Lumbar IV to fill it.
Six botanicals targeting three inflammation pathways simultaneously β not just one pathway like NSAIDs. Delivered as a liquid held under the tongue so it bypasses the digestive system that destroys capsules. No pill. No fog. No stomach damage.
This isn't a miracle cure. We don't claim to fix your disc. What we target is the inflammatory cascade that's been dehydrating it β so your body has a chance to do what it was designed to do.
I built this because I lived it. But I'm the founder β you should hear it from people who had no reason to say any of this except that it worked.
Now here's what you need to know about the surgery you're being offered.
Spinal fusion permanently welds two vertebrae together with metal hardware. It eliminates motion at that segment forever. It cannot be undone.
Success rates are 70-80% β which means 20-30% of patients develop what's called Failed Back Surgery Syndrome. Repeat surgery success rates drop dramatically: 50% for the first, 30% for the second, 15% for the third, 5% for the fourth.
Surgery will still be there if you need it. It's not going anywhere. But it's permanent. And permanent should be the LAST option β not the next one.
Try the conservative path before the irreversible one.
